How to tell if Samantha is pre-Mattell

I just picked up a previously owned Samantha doll. The previous owner says she is 7 to 8 years old. her dress is un-tagged but her stockings say "Made in Taiwan for Pleasant Company 1993". I also have a "new" Samantha from 2005. The vinal on the older doll is somewhat softer and a little darker than on the new doll. Any thoughts??? How do I know if she is pre-Mattell???

Hold her by the ankles and press in on the feet. The older vinyl is softer.

Also check on her eyelashes - they will be brown like her hair if she is PM.
